10月28日は 自由の女神 の誕生日！自由の女神の完成からちょうど130年目となります。盛大なお祝いイベントはありませんが、ささやかなお祝いが行われています。

Statue of Liberty NMは、130周年を記念し、誕生日モードです。

こちらは1886年10月28日の完成記念式典への招待状だそうです。まるで誕生を証明する Birth Certificate のようですね。

自由の女神が完成したときのお知らせのポスターはこんな感じだったんですね。

自由の女神の台座には、1883年に作成されたという Emma Lazarus さんの有名な詩が刻まれています。

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand

この詩に表現されているように、自由の女神は移民達の希望の象徴でもあります。これからも開放的で自由を尊ぶアメリカらしい精神を持ち続けていって欲しいですね。
